Hydrology

Publishes original research articles, letters, case reports, reviews/mini-reviews and guest edited thematic issues on the topics related to hydrology. 

The section Hydrology of the journal Current Indian Science aims to publish original research articles, letters, case reports, reviews/mini-reviews and guest-editedthematic issues on the topics related to hydrology, water resources management, and atmospheric processes. 

This section is not limited to a specific aspect of the field but is instead devoted to a wider range of sub-fields in the area. Articles of multi-disciplinary nature are particularly welcome. Submissions in the following areas are of special interest to the readers of this journal:

· Applications of Machine Learning

· Climate change

· Flood forecasting

· Groundwater hydrology, contaminant transport, hydro-geology

· Hydrological extremes

· Remote sensing and GIS

· Statistical modelling

· Surface water hydrology, Karst hydrology

Shakeel Ahmed (PhD, 1987, Mines ParisTech, France) is Professor at Maulana Azad National Urdu University, Hyderabad, India. Being an Earth Scientist, he has worked extensively for Groundwater Hydrology in his 37 years' career at CSIR's National Geophysical Research Institute and Chair Professor in Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi. He led a number of national and international projects on Groundwater including a mega program of National Aquifer Mapping in India with more than 150 SCI publications, supervised 40 doctoral theses. He is the Managing Secretariat of the Asian GWADI as its Secretary. His awards include National Geoscience Award, International Prize for water Science, National Mineral Award, INC-IAH Excellence Award, NGRI-AHI National Lecture Award, IGU-Annie Talwani Memorial Prize, Young Scientist Award etc. He is the Fellow of The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS), and National Academy of Sciences of India. Ahmed has led an Indo-French Centre for Groundwater Research in Hyderabad for almost 2 decades as its founder head. He has been the visiting fellow to the Aligarh Muslim University and visiting professor to Kashmir University.

Dr. Kasiviswanathan K S is an assistant professor in the Department of Water Resources Development and Management, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee, India. He graduated with BE in Civil Engineering, MTech in Water Resources Development and PhD in Quantification of uncertainty in hydrological models. His current research at IIT Roorkee mainly focused on reservoir operation, flood forecasting, geospatial data analysis, multi-objective optimization, uncertainty, and risk quantification. He has published more than 30 papers in reputed high-impact factor international journals and conferences. He is a recipient of several prestigious awards such as the Berkner fellowship from American Geophysical Union, USA, Sivapalan Young Scientist award from International Association of Hydrological Sciences, United Kingdom, Early Career Research Award, Department of Science and Technology, India, and Eyes High Postdoctoral Fellowship, University of Calgary, Canada. He is currently holding a research project worth approximately—half a million US dollars in collaboration with institutes from India and abroad.

Dr. Prashanth Reddy Hanmaiahgari is an Associate Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur. His research interests include experimental and numerical modelling of free surface flows in open channels, fluvial hydrodynamics and pressurized flow in closed conduits. He frequently reviews manuscripts of reputed journals and he is an associate editor for a couple of reputed journals. He is actively involved in consultancy projects in his domain. He has published journal papers on turbulence, sediment transport, open channel hydraulics and unsteady flows in pipelines. He teaches open channel flow hydraulics, turbulence, water resources engineering, unsteady flows in pipelines, hydraulic structures and sediment transport.

Currently, the major focus is on non-stationary modelling extremes, multi-criteria decision making, and development of decision making tools.

Dr. Santosh Pingale is a Scientist-C at Hydrological Investigations Division, National Institute of Hydrology, Roorkee. Dr. Pingale also serves as Associate Editor, Hydrological Sciences Journal of the International Association of Hydrological Sciences (IAHS) and Joint Editor of the Indian Journal of Hydrology published by Indian Association of Hydrologists (IAH). He has more than nine years of experience in research & development, and capacity building related to water resources and hydrology. He has published numerous research papers in peer-reviewed international journals (33) and conferences (20). He is also serving as a reviewer for many reputed international journals. Besides, he is also guiding graduates in the field of water resources and hydrology. His research interest include water resources, climate change, hydrologic modelling and groundwater modelling. He has wide experience in application of statistical techniques in water resources assessment with respect to watersheds, sub-watersheds and river basin scales using SWAT, WetSpa and HBV hydrologic models. Also, he has expertise in soft computing techniques i.e. Fuzzy Logic & ANFIS, remote sensing and GIS. Before joining NIH, he served as Assistant Professor in the Faculty of Water Resources & Irrigation Engg., Water Technology Institute, Arba Minch University, Ethiopia over five years (2013 to 2018). Dr. Pingale did his Ph.D. in Water Resources Development and Management from IIT, Roorkee in 2013. In 2010, he was awarded a Canadian Commonwealth fellowship by the Canadian Government and worked as Visiting Research Fellow in the Dept. of Civil & Geological Engg., University of Saskatchewan, Canada. He was a recipient of some renowned Indian Fellowships like the fellowship awarded by the Ministry of Human Resources Department (MHRD) Government of India for PhD, fellowship of the Indian Council of Agriculture and Research, New Delhi for MTech.

Dr. Thomas is a Senior Scientist working at the National Institute of Hydrology with more than 30 years of experience in the field of hydrology and water resources. His areas of interest include hydrological modeling, drought management, climate change impact assessments, reservoir operation and irrigation water management.

Dr. B Soundharajan is an Associate Professor at Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Coimbatore and his expertise is in the analysis, planning and management of water resources systems to develop reservoir management and planning tools. He received his PhD in Water Resources Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology Madras and did post-doctoral research at Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh. Dr Soundharajan also worked as a Scientist at International Water Management Institute (IWMI); and as Adjunct faculty at Washington State University, USA.
