His research interests include meshless methods, hybrid finite and boundary element methods, piezoelectric materials and structures, nanomaterials, metamaterials, and composite materials. He has published 8 academic books and more than 300 journal papers in these fields.

Then he joined the Australian National University as a Research Fellow from February 2016 to February 2017. His research interests include computational mechanics, and the mechanics of composites. So far, he has authored four academic books by CRC Press, Elsevier and Tsinghua University Press, respectively, and 49 academic journal papers indexed by SCI. In 2010, he was awarded the Australia Endeavor Award.

Prof. Raj Das leads the ‘Simulation of Advanced Materials and Structures’ group in the Aerospace Engineering and Aviation discipline of the School of Engineering of RMIT University in Australia. Prof Das has more than 20 years of experience in the design, analysis and optimisation of aerospace materials and structures with a focus on computational simulation, composite structures, failure analysis, and damage tolerance optimization for civil and defence applications. Prof. Das is a principal investigator of the ‘Sir Lawrence Wackett Aerospace Research Centre’ of RMIT University, and also an adjunct academic of the University of Quebec, Canada. He serves as the Chair of the ‘National Committee on Applied Mechanics’ of Engineers Australia and as the President of ‘International Congress on the Mechanical Behavior of Materials’.

His research activities mainly focus on scaling and size effects in damage and fracture.

Guoxing Lu first joined Swinburne in 1995, after his post-doctoral research at the University of Cambridge and lecturing at the Nanyang Technological Univeristy (NTU), Singapore. He established the Impact Engineering Laboratory and became a full professor in 2004. After a successful career at Swinburne, Professor Lu moved back to NTU as a tenured faculty member. In 2015, Professor Lu came back to Swinburne as Professor of Impact Engineering. Professor Guoxing Lu's research interests are in impact mechanics, advanced structures and mechanical properties of novel materials.

He was awarded a postdoctoral research certificate in 2018, from Southeast University, Nanjing, China, after completing a postdoctoral research fellowship for two years, in Artificial Intelligence (AI) based schemes for structural health monitoring (SHM) and damage detection of composite structures, and he was awarded a Ph.D. in 2015, in the area of fatigue of composite structures, a Master certificate in 2009, in dynamic systems, and B.Sc. in 2004, in Mechanical Engineering, from Alexandria University. For the past 6 years, his research has focused on the utilization of AI-based schemes for SHM in the research group at Southeast University. He has published over 40 refereed papers, 15 conference papers, 8 chapters in books, more than 5 full books.

His current research interests include biomechanics robots, shape memory alloy control, smart structure and dynamics, piezo-based wireless sensor network, and intelligent control of unmanned systems.

Yuli Chen is currently a professor at Beihang University in China. She got her PhD degree majored in mechanics from Tsinghua University in 2008. Then she worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the Ohio State University in the United States from 2008 to 2011. In 2011, she returned to China and joined the faculty of Institute of Solid Mechanics, Beihang University. Her research is focused on mechanical behavior of multi-scale composite materials and structures. She has been selected into the Excellent Talents in the New Century (2013), Excellent Youth Science Foundation Project (2016) and the Young Scholars of Cheung Kong Scholars Programme (2017).

Professor Xudong Chen, received his bachelor degree from Xiamen University (Xiamen, China) in 1988, his master degree from Sun Yat-sen University (Guangzhou, China) in 1991, and his Ph.D. from South China University of Technology (Guangzhou, China) in 1997. From 1997 to 1999, Chen worked in Institute of Materials Science of Sun Yat-sen University as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow. After a stint in Southwest University (Chongqing, China) as a lecturer, he joined Sun Yat-sen University in 1999. He was appointed as a full professor in 2007. His research interests are mainly focused on the interaction between polymer-light, polymer condensed matter physics (spectroscopy characterization of polymer morphology structure and its change process) and high performance functional polymers. Prof. Chen as a Principal Investigator and Project Director, has directed 30 research projects funded by National Natural Science Foundation of China, Natural Science Foundation of Guangdong Province, et al. He has published more than 100 papers in international academic journals, including J. Am. Chem. Soc., Adv. Mater., Adv. Funct. Mater., Macromolecules and so on and acquired 15 patents.

Prof. Cui’s main research interests include the mechanics problems and numerical modeling in metal forming, modeling and prediction of microstructure and defects evolution in metal hot working, and design optimization of product and forming technology. He has been working as a professor in Shanghai Jiao Tong University for 15 years since 2002. In these years, he offered 3 teaching courses including “Fundamental Mechanics in Material Processing”, “Forming Equipment and Automation” and “Mechanics of Materials”. He published about 156 peer-reviewed journal papers and 23 international conference papers, issued 10 authored China Patents and 3 software copyrights. He received 2 projects from National Basic Research Program of China, 3 projects from National Science and Technology Major Project of the Ministry of Science and Technology of China, 2 projects from National Natural Science Foundation of China, and some other projects from the Ministry of Education and Shanghai City Government. The total funding from governments are about 15M in CNY (amount to 2.15M in USD). Besides that, He had extensive long-term cooperation with industries including Baosteel, Shanghai Electric SHMP Casting & Forging Co., Ltd , TAKATA Corporation (and its affiliated companies in Japan, US and China), etc. In recent years, he received more than 10M in CNY (amount to 1.5M in USD) research funding commissioned from industries.

His research covers metal flow, die design, friction and microstructural evolution during deformation. Recently, His research work involves the processing of UFG materials using Severe Plastic Deformation methods. His academic group developed some new techniques such as Dual-Equal-Channel-Extrusion, Simple-Shear-Extrusion, Cyclic-Expansion-Extrusion and Vortex-Extrusion which produces high quality ultrafine-grained materials, with superior properties.

Prof. Dr. Xin Lin is Deputy Dean of School of Materials Science and Engineering in Northwestern Polytechnical University (NPU), Director of Key Laboratory of Metal High Performance Additive Manufacturing and Innovative Design, Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), China. His areas of research include metal additive manufacturing (AM) and solidification. He received his PhD from NPU in 2000 and worked as a postdoctoral fellow at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University in 2003-2005. He holds 20 Chinese patents and has published 3 monographs and over 400 articles in journals, such as Acta Mater., Addit Manuf., Corros Sci., Scripta Mater, Metal. Mater. Trans. A.
