Introduction

Ischemic cardiovascular disease includes myocardial infarction, coronary atherosclerotic heart disease, angina pectoris, etc., constitute the leading cause of patient mortality by preventing tissues from getting sufficient oxygen and nutrients. Ischemic heart disease, as a clinical condition, is characterized by myocardial ischemia, causing an imbalance between myocardial blood supply and demand, whereas ischemic stroke occurs when the blood supply to part of the brain is interrupted or reduced. Current research has revealed the common causes, risk factors, molecular mechanisms, medical diagnosis and drug treatment measures of various ischemic cardiovascular diseases. However, the fundamental cellular heterogeneity, complex cellular communication and molecular regulatory network across the dynamic continuum of ischemic cardiovascular diseases remain elusive. Therefore, further understanding of molecular basis of ischemic cardiovascular diseases is imperative to find the precise biomarkers for early diagnosis and novel strategies for poor prognosis and adverse effects. This research topic aims to bring together promising, recent, and novel trends in the field of ischemic cardiovascular research, and to lead the way in presenting novel diagnostics, interventions and treatments. We aim to highlight: (1) novel physiological and molecular mechanisms of ischemic cardiovascular diseases, (2) the causality between critical molecular events and potential early diagnosis and therapies, and (3) the application of new technologies and interdisciplinarity in ischemic cardiovascular disease research. Any novel ideas, research models, and methods in this field will be welcomed.
